What is GIS? GIS is an abbreviation for geographic information system, a computer system to create, analyze, report, and map data geographically.

Responsibilities: Newton County GIS has geospatial data available in shapefiles, geodatabase, PDF maps, web maps, and web applications. Part of the department’s responsibility includes maintaining digital maps and creating data layers for Newton County. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any data needs or questions!  

Available Data Layers include Townships, Sections, Parcels, Addresses, Lots, Subdivisions, Aerial Photography, Contours, Address Points, Street Centerlines, Rights of Way, Drains, Tiles, Precincts, Flood Zones, Soils, Zoning, and much more!
